Dragon-Scale Washcloth
A nod to Ryker’s tattoo + Thyroni lore
Looks like: mini overlapping scales—without intimidating stitches.
Skill level: Confident beginner
Technique: Simple: Alternating stitch height (no post stitches required)
Yarn: Cotton worsted
Hook: 5.0 mm (H)
Pattern
Foundation
Ch 31 (or any multiple of 2 + 1).
Row 1 (Setup Row)
HDC (Half double crochet) in 2nd ch from hook and across.
Ch 1 (chain 1 does not count as a stitch from here on), turn.
Row 2 (Scale Texture Row)
Repeat across:
1 SC (single crochet in first stitch)
1 DC in next stitch (double crochet)
This alternating height creates the soft “scale” texture.
Ch 1, turn.
Row 3
HDC across in all stitches. (
Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Rows 2–3 until the piece is square.
Optional “Dragon Edge”
Along one side (or all):
(SC, ch 2, SC) in each stitch for a subtle pointed effect.
Finish
Weave ends.
Lightly block if desired.
Result: A squishy, textured cloth that works up in about 30 minutes and looks delightfully dragon-worthy.
