Hi, my name is Sera Blackthorn, and I’m taking care of my grandmother’s enchanted and magical yarn shop while she travels. Isn’t this an amazing store? Have you ever seen such a magical, wondrous and beautiful building? And the inside! Just wow! The first time I entered my Nonie’s shop, I felt like a kid in a candy store! I just had to touch and squeeze all those wonderful balls of yarn!
Here in Yarns of Wonder, you will find everything you need for your next yarn project, plus a bunch of very friendly crafters willing to share both knowledge and gossip–of course, you’d expected that in a small town, right? A favorite topic is the Amelia’s latest mishap. The poor dear owns a potions shop, and sometimes, her creations go awry! Do keep in mind, in a small town everyone knows everyone and everything about them so if you are new to Havenwood Cove, or just visiting, Yarns of Wonder is the perfect place to aquaint yourself with the wonderful (and quirky) characters, er, um, fine, upstanding citizens!
The shop is located on one end of Main Street, where the majority of businesses are located. I did say small town, right? Oh, and with few exceptions like deliverys or shop owners hauling goods, there are no cars allowed on Main Street. There is a gate as you enter the town manned by a gnome by the name of Bramblewick who will direct you to the car park. Near the car park, you’ll find magical carts and bikes for rent at Enchanted Rides as well as a no-cost ride service (using magical carts of course). But no worries. Havenwood is a very small town and everything is within walking distance.
Once inside Yarns of Wonder, if you are fortunate, you might witness our magical loom creating a lovely mysterious tapestry, or maybe the spinning wheel is turning out roving into balls of yarn that are deceptively small, yet they will complete whatever project you start with them. And there is almost always a message displayed on the loom. Is it a ghost or magic. Who knows, but it is…Magical.
Oh, perhaps I should warn you. My magical parrot/phoenix, known as a Pyroquet, often pops into the shop. And. Um. Hey, I mean he literally pops in. One minute everything is nice and calm and quiet. Then, POOF! Syrus is on his perch in the corner and he talks none stop. Please accept my apologies, for he is loud, obnoxious, and loves to insult anyone and everyone. I don’t call him Sarcastic Syrus for nothing.
Come browse our large selection of yarns, including color-changing yarns. We offer unique patterns and lots of comfy chairs, along with a large table if you’d like to sit and work on project. Come knit or crochet a spell. I do mean this literally, as many of my customers are witches!
The shop also offers outdoor seating. Enjoy the view and the fresh, tangy seabreeze with a view of the sea with its choppy waves and colorful sail boats. If you listen closely, you might even hear the fishermen singing as they return with their catch.
Across from the shop, on the green that runs down the center of the street (no asphalt, not even on the single road that circles the town along the cliffs), there is a relaxing fountain surrounded by benches. One bench should have engraved names of the three characters, erm, older gents who meet there every afternoon with their dogs. And they are indeed characters. On the other side of Main Street, we have Fae’s Brews & Tales, owned by my best friend Lilura. They serve magical drinks. The Starlight Sparkle Tea and the Aurora Ambrosia are favorites.
If you brought your teen children, and want some adult time, send them down to the arcade and gaming lounge owned by three half-goblin brothers. But best beware, Baxter is very possessive over his high score in one game, and any misbehaving is dealt with swiftly with The Peacemaker, a magical staff.
If you are lucky–or not depending on your viewpoint, you might witness the antics of Sheriff Grumbles. Whoops, Sheriff Sam Hawkins to you, hahaha, as he chases after mischievious Fin, Havenwood’s own living Elf on a Shelf. The two have a hate-hate relationship, but if you ask me, they both enjoy their almost daily battles and confrontations. Well, I don’t think the sheriff appreciates Fin when his prized Stetson takes off tumbling down the street or soaring over the rooftops. The Fey abilities Fin possesses are an absolute hoot. I’ll share my first meeting with him soon.
If you crochet or knit (or any other craft), join me and my core group of crafters each morning. I’m trying to decide if I want to do a granny square scarf or shawl. Not sure yet. I’m waiting for my muse to choose! And speak of choosing, there are so many lovely skeins of yarn to pick from! I’m thinking of a gradient in the colors that run from dusk to dawn which symbolizes my return to my hometown and the end of one life, and the start of another.
So stop in and say hi!
Sera Blackthorn, temporary owner
